Cayan Tower

(formerly Infinity Tower)

75-storey, 307m-high residential structure which is set apart by a 90 degree shift of its floorplates between the base and top, making it the tallest twisted tower in the world

Dubai is home to yet another record breaking tower. The one billion dirham Cayan Tower, previously known as Infinity Tower, was inaugurated on Monday.
According to its developer, Cayan Real Estate Investment and Development Company, which has operations in Dubai and Saudi Arabia, the 307-meter-high tower holds the record for the tallest twisted architectural creation in the world,
“We wanted to develop a different creation to be part of the competition [for towers] in Dubai, ” said Ahmed Alhatti, president and chairman of Cayan Group.
Located in the Dubai Marina area, the residential tower has sold over 80 per cent of its approximately 570 residential units, which includes 495 apartments, with one to four bedrooms, and penthouses.

Currently, the selling of residential units has stopped, but it is expected to resume after the summer months, according to Alhatti.
Buyers that have units in the tower can move in starting from Tuesday, he said.

The tower, which has a 90 degree curve from top to bottom, also includes retail space and it is expected to have a spa as well.
It’s taken eight years to develop Cayan Tower, which was expected to be launched in 2010.
The delay is a result of a number of factors, including the financial woes of 2008 that put many projects in Dubai on hold.
Another factor is the collapse of the wall that held back the Marina water in 2007, Alhatti explained.
The 75 storey tower was designed by Skidmore Owings and Merrill, known for projects such as Burj Khalifa.
Cayan is “studying two projects in Dubai,” he said, but declined to give further details.

Dubai in the first week of June 2013 inaugurated the tallest twisted tower of the world called Cayan Tower at the cost of 272 million US dollar. Earlier it was called the Infinity Tower. It was inaugurated in Dubai Marina. With this, Dubai created yet another record of engineering marvels as well as skyscrapers.

Making of "MODERN TEMPLE OF INDIA"

Bhakhra Dam, the highest straight gravity dam in the world

The idea for the construction of this dam was conceived by Sir Louis Dane the then Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, who travelled from Sunni to Bilaspur and then onward to Ropar. The project could not make headway due to prohibitive cost of construction. In the year 1938-39 the districts of Rohtak and Hissar of the then Punjab State experienced severe drought resulting in great loss of human life and cattle. The scheme was again mooted out but was not executed due to second world war. It was only after independence in March, 1948 that the work was taken in hand for execution. On the historic day of 17th November, 1955 later Prime Minister Shri Jawahar Lal Nehru placed the first bucket of concrete at the foundation. The constructin of dam was completed in October, 1962.

MORE INFO
Bhakra Dam is a concrete gravity dam across the Sutlej River, and is near the border between Punjab and Himachal Pradesh in northern India.

The dam, located at a gorge near the (now submerged) upstream Bhakra village in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh, is India's second tallest at 225.55 m (740 ft) high next to the 261m Tehri Dam.

he 90 km long reservoir created by the Bhakra Dam is spread over an area of 168.35 km2. In terms of storage of water, it withholds the second largest reservoir in India, the first being Indira Sagar Dam in Madhya Pradesh with capacity of 12.22 billion cu m.

Described as 'New Temple of Resurgent India' by Jawaharlal Nehru,[2] the first prime minister of India, the dam attracts tourists from all over India.
Nangal dam is another dam downstream of Bhakra dam. Sometimes both the dams together are called Bhakra-Nangal dam though they are two separate dams.
